Festival of Biblical Telling 2025

What really happens when we allow the words of the Bible to inhabit our being and our community? When we give it space in our mind and our body - allowing it to be a companion, a worthy debate partner, a breathing space in our day?

Some of us take on the practice of biblical telling with a fierce desire for a deeper intellectual study of God's word. Some of us embrace it with a burning need to bring our hearts closer to the heart of God. Some of us in ministry will not be satisfied until we have found a way to wake up and shake up the congregation – face to face with the Word.

And, in the telling, we have been changed, ourselves. This NBSC Festival 2025 will press on with the conviction that biblical telling creates both a personal and communal transformation – that the practice of by-hearting and sharing the Word changes those who receive it and it changes the teller. Our Keynote Speaker, Linnea Good, will tell stories and reflect on her own 30 years of performance in Christian storytelling, from her unique vantage point of relationships built around the world, and experience as a travelling Christian singer/songwriter and educator.

The early sessions of our two full days of online programming will provide
Training at both the beginner and more experienced levels. Biblical Telling 101 will be taught by former national NBSC lead, Susan Wilson, while next level Biblical Telling 201 will be led Sandhya Ruban Hobday. These training workshops will run both days as parts one and two, and will offer a certificate of participation upon completion.

Workshops will be offered in diverse topics related to biblical telling, touching on broad aspects of Spirituality, Prayer, Art, Children's Ministry, Evangelism and Biblical Study. Andy Johnston will explore biblical telling as a lift-off point for prayer, Jan Bihl will help us make a necessary connection between telling our story and the biblical story, Julie Drew will give us a way into biblical telling through art, Carole Danby returns to teach us creative ways of sharing the Bible with children. All this and more!

The
Epic Telling – our communal tag team telling of portions of a whole book of the Bible – will explore the book of Job. Rabbi Elyse Goldstein, our engaging keynote speaker from Festival 2024, will return in an advance workshop this November to teach us about a Jewish perspective on this significant book - to help us prepare to by-heart and tell. Sign-up for Epic Telling texts is open (registration will be required)

There will be opportunities to connect and
Network in an open mic style Story Circle, and a Resource-Sharing Hour for those who have used their telling in various settings, and those who are dreaming something up.

All of this is wrapped in
Worship and Prayer led by our Devotions team, with Music led by Bangalore praise team leader Stanley Benjamin. Our Featured Artist at the close of Saturday will be the award-winning singer/songwriter Brian Doerksen.
